RB Leipzig is about to sign coach Ole Werner!

RB Leipzig is about to sign Ole Werner as their new head coach. Negotiations with the coach, who was released by Werder Bremen, are now in their final stages. This reports kicker.de. In the last few weeks, Leipzig had already made unsuccessful attempts to recruit Sebastian Hoeneß, Roger Schmidt, Cesc Fabregas, Oliver Glasner and Jacob Neestrup for the coaching position.

Werner was released by Werder Bremen after the end of the season because he did not want to extend his contract, which runs until 2026. He is aiming for a new challenge and wants to achieve more than just staying in the Bundesliga. A key goal for the coming season would be to qualify for the Champions League, as Leipzig have successfully reached this prestigious league in the last six seasons.

Negotiations and transfer fee

The negotiations between Leipzig and Werner are progressing quickly, but some contractual details still need to be clarified. How Yahoo Sports reported, the club must either pay a severance payment to Werder Bremen or reach an amicable agreement to terminate the contract. The transfer fee could range between one and three million euros, which is considered economically favorable compared to other coaches, as commitments over 20 million euros are commonplace.

The talks also included the likes of Jürgen Klopp and Mario Gomez, underlining the importance of RB Leipzig's coaching search. However, a central problem remains Werner's existing contract, which binds him to Bremen until 2026. Nevertheless, he is considered the clear favorite for the coaching position and negotiations could be concluded this week.

In the search for a coach, Jacob Neestrup, who most recently worked at FC Copenhagen, has withdrawn from the race for the position, which increases Werner's chances of moving.
