Rioter in Leipzig Central Station: Donation Box and Chaos!

A spectacular incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon in Leipzig Central Station when a 42-year-old German stole a donation box. Officials of the joint operational group of the state and federal police who act under the name "Bahnhofzentrum" quickly recognized the police-known man and were able to arrest him with the box from which 30 euros were taken. The thief had previously come through the promenades of the train station without the donation box. The officials are part of an increased presence in the region to act against theft and other crimes.

The incident is part of a greater pattern of criminal activities that are increasingly observed according to MDR. The federal police have therefore set up information stands at the main train station that show how quickly luggage can be stolen or personal data can be tapped off. In four small stations, exemplary theft situations are reproduced to sensitize travelers.

Figgering deeds

The day after his first theft, the 42-year-old had further serious incidents. In the early afternoon, he threatened the station mission staff with a construction site base and rioted there. Just three hours later, he was caught with another theft. A situation was particularly alarming around midnight when the man threatened rail safety employees with a walking stick and exposed himself. The federal police have now initiated investigations into threats, exhibitionist acts, theft and trespass. Investigations in a total of 12 cases have been running against the man since the beginning of the week.

The preventive measures by the federal police are more important than ever in the face of such incidents. Police officer Jens Damrau gives helpful tips for protecting valuables: do not leave the cell phone on the table and take backpack forward when there is a crowd. Covering the PIN input is also a simple but effective measure. The federal police advise to wear valuables closely on the body and use lockable inner pockets. It is pointed out that thieves often act in groups and distract their victims, for example by jacking up or addressing.

In order to avoid further thefts, the "Stop Pickpockets" campaign informs about internationally widespread methods of pickpocketing. It sensitizes passers -by to be attentive and explains that the police should be informed when stealing. If this is done, it is advisable to have money cards locked immediately under number 116 116. For better security, travelers can also use a federal police data passport to safely store important information about personal documents.

The developments related to the repeated rioting thief illustrate the need for increased preventive measures and conscious behavior in public space.
