Massive drone attack on Ukraine: Russia's devastating offensive!

In the past few days, dramatic events have occurred in Ukraine, which further tighten the already tense relationship between Russia and Ukraine. Russia started an extensive attack with 479 drones on Ukraine on Sunday, June 2, 2025, which has been the biggest drone attack on the country since the beginning of the war. According to Bild there was a wide attack in this attack, which several Hours lasted and met both infrastructure and civil goals. However, the Ukrainian air defense was able to intercept part of the drones, which indicates that the country's defense measures existed, even if damage was inevitable.

The attack that was carried out in waves led to a call from the Ukrainian authorities to the population. There was a risk of further attacks, which also fueled the tense situation in the region. Meanwhile, Ukraine reported that it also targeted strategic bombers of Russia and destroyed dozens of them. This attack was directed against at least four known Russian air force base, including Iwanowo, Djagilewo, Olenja and Belaya, which are over 4,200 kilometers from the Ukrainian border and has been known as the first Ukrainian attack in Siberia since the start of the invasion.

Ukrainian offensive and resistance

The Ukrainian offensive comprised 117 FPV drones (First Person View), which were secretly transported close to the bases. The operation was in preparation for 18 months and shows the strategic planning of Ukraine, which has now demonstrated several of its attacking skills. According to estimates by the Ukrainian secret service SBU, 40 fighting and reconnaissance planes in Russia were destroyed by this surgical success, including important models such as the Tupolew TU-95 and TU-22. The estimated damage to Russia amounts to around $ 7 billion, which underpins the effects of this offensive and emphasizes the importance of this military action.

Russia reacted to the attacks with the confirmation of "terrorist attacks" and reported on damaged aircraft. Reviews of the media and military bloggers about the loss of their strategic bombers speak for internal tensions in the Russian military, while President Selenskyj praised the Ukrainian attack as a "brilliant action" and emphasized its operational preparation as exemplary. However, the connection of these attacks with the ongoing negotiations in Istanbul was classified as unlikely, since such offensive operations need long preparation.

These developments illustrate the continuing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, which continues to vary in its dimensions and its intensity. The international community remains concerned about the humanitarian and security policy effects of this war, while both countries always adapt their military strategies.
