Skatepark Paunsdorf: Citizens' ideas for a new leisure hotspot are needed!

An information event about the planned skate park will take place in Leipzig Paunsdorf on June 18, 2025. This will take place on Wednesday, June 25th, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the open leisure club OFT “Crazy”, which is located near the Paunsdorf secondary school. The presentation is organized by the Offices for Urban Greenery and Waterways as well as for Housing and Urban Renewal. The aim of the event is to present initial design proposals for the skate park as part of the Grüner Bogen open space project. Citizens are invited to contribute their ideas and suggestions for planning in order to jointly create a public open space for sports, games and meetings.

The planned skate park is part of a comprehensive development project in the Paunsdorf area, which is considered an area worthy of support. As part of a city-wide skate development concept, the location of the planned park was carefully examined and evaluated. Particular emphasis is placed on the participation of children and young people, who are to be supported by the Leipzig Children and Youth Office. The skate park project is financed, among other things, through funds from the Social Cohesion program.

The Green Arch Paunsdorf

The Green Arch Paunsdorf project extends over 120 hectares and aims to create a new recreational landscape to improve the environmental and quality of life in this district. Work has been underway on this ambitious project since 1999, which is intended to offer citizens an attractive way to spend their free time.

An example of a skate park that has already been successfully implemented in Leipzig is the “Parkallee” skate park in Grünau, which opened on December 6, 2021 after over a year and a half of construction. After 15 years, the old skate park was in dire need of renovation, so it was necessary to rebuild it on an area of around 2,500 square meters. The facility is divided into three areas: Street, Flow and Bowl. It offers numerous offers for all age groups and meets the current requirements of the scooter, inline skateboard, skateboard and BMX scene.

Diverse use and sustainability

The elements integrated into the “Parkallee” skate park, including transitions, street and bench areas, ensure versatile use. Particular attention was paid to barrier-free planning, which also allows wheelchair users access. An innovative floodlight system, which is equipped with automatic power regulation, not only ensures energy-saving lighting, but can also be operated at full power when required. The total costs for the planning and construction of the facility amounted to around 1.7 million euros, with 90 percent of the financing being secured through the “Social Integration in the Neighborhood” investment pact funding program. The skate park is part of a comprehensive package of measures to improve the Grünau district.

In addition to the skate facilities, the area offers amenities such as streetball, table tennis and calisthenics options as well as a park-like area for resting and watching the athletes. 21 trees and around 2,000 ground cover plants and shrubs were newly planted, and special trenches were installed to allow rainwater to seep away.

The planned skate park in Paunsdorf is not only a place for sporting activities, but could also play an important role in the social and urban development of the district, as has already become clear in other projects in Leipzig.
