New splendor for Paunsdorf: Am Vorwerk” square shines after renovation!
The redesign of the “Am Vorwerk” forecourt in Leipzig-Paunsdorf has been completed and was ceremoniously opened on June 27, 2025. Environmental Mayor Heiko Rosenthal was present at the opening event, highlighting the significant improvements to the square. The construction work took around three months and amounts to a total cost of around 395,000 euros. This measure was largely financed by the federal-state “Social Cohesion” program, which covers two thirds of the costs. The aim of this redesign was to clearly increase the quality of stay in the adjacent public space, as tag24.de reports.
The redesign includes more than just cosmetic changes. The space has been expanded by around 1,700 square meters and now offers new paths, a pergola and a variety of newly planted trees and bushes. Particularly important was the renewal of the heavily worn paths and squares, as well as the installation of modern lighting, bicycle support bars and wastebaskets. These measures were partly initiated after the previous equipment was perceived as inadequate.
Comprehensive redesign
The work that falls under the specifications of the integrated action plan for Paunsdorf began as early as February 2024. As part of a citizen dialogue, the first ideas for the redesign were developed together with the citizens in October 2023. The concept includes, among other things, the planting of perennials and ground cover plants in the tree avenue area. In addition, a dead lime tree was replaced, the old rose bed was removed and new planting areas were created with two additional trees and individual bushes. A new seating area with a pergola was also created to ensure visitors have a comfortable stay. These individual measures aim to increase the quality of the open space and increase the attractiveness of the square, as shotoe.com adds.
During the construction phase there were restrictions for pedestrians and cyclists, who were informed by signposted diversions. However, nearby consumption remained open throughout, while the DHL packing station was not accessible during the work. The city of Leipzig hopes that this overall measure will significantly improve the public space.
