Seniors thief in Leipzig: 19-year-old behind bars!

Leipzig-Marienbrunn, Deutschland - A 19-year-old is accused of having committed several raids on older people between April 21 and May 1, 2025 in Leipzig. The deeds took place in the south of Leipzig and primarily concerned seniors between the ages of 64 and 91. According to [lvz.de] (https://www.lvz.de/lokales/leipzig-jugendliche-nacht-dihlie-in-berin-t- uqkde6q7vgkzc3hkw74gmvuta.html) assume that at least five raids were caused by around 2000 euros.

The concrete approach of the suspect was often similar: he used the distraction of the victims to steal them on machines while lifting them. A particularly serious incident occurred on April 25, when an 83-year-old woman was pushed aside when taking out cash in a Sparkassen branch in Leipzig-Marienbrunn. Fortunately, she was not injured. A day later, the perpetrator is said to have stolen a 67-year-old in Zwickauer Straße in a similar way, such as [tag24.de] (https://www.tag24.de/folizei/polizei/erst-leipzig-dann-berlin-hi-jetz-jetzen-seniors-dieben-gieb-tieb-tieb-tieb-tieb-tieb-tieb-tieb-tieb-tieb-

arrest in Berlin

The suspect was caught in Berlin on May 23 when he committed a shop theft. During this arrest, the police discovered the existing arrest warrant against him, which had been issued due to the attacks in Leipzig. In the meantime, the man has been brought to a youth criminal offense. He is said to have already captured around 1,500 euros in his actions, whereby the Leipzig police continue to check whether further crimes can be assigned to this perpetrator.

The attacks on older people also skill light on a worrying phenomenon. Although crime in Germany, according to the police crime statistics (PKS) in 2024, fell by 1.7 % and is mainly due to a decline in cannabis confectionery, security in public spaces remains a big issue. This is in contrast to the increases in crimes that affect the subjective feeling of security of the citizens, as Statista.com.

Citizens' feeling of security

As the PKS shows, thefts, property offenses and crimes are the most common crimes in recent years. It is particularly alarming that in 2024 almost 1.33 million people in Germany became crime victims. The challenge for the law enforcement agencies becomes clear with a clearance rate that has sunk to 58 %.

However, these events also offer reason to hope: The suspect's arrest in Berlin shows that the investigative authorities are vigilant and can react quickly to avert further damage. Public attention to these cases could also help to raise awareness of the protection of endangered groups in society, especially older people.
