On Wednesday evening, June 18, 2025, there was a major fire in Cologne-Lindenthal. The fire department was alerted at around 9:30 p.m. after a house fire was reported on Universitätsstrasse at the corner of Dürener Strasse. The flames had engulfed an apartment on the fourth floor where there was a bedridden elderly woman.
A total of three people were injured: the senior citizen herself, her husband and a caregiver. All three suffered smoke inhalation and had to be taken to hospital. The affected apartment burned down completely and is now uninhabitable. The extinguishing work continued until late in the evening, while the fire brigade did not provide any information about the cause of the fire. Loud Express 46 emergency services and 17 fire engines were involved in the operation.
Difficult rescue operation
The situation on site was challenging as the fire brigade first had to gain access to the burning apartment.
