Dachshund rescue in Leipzig: Fire brigade extinguishes fire for technical reasons!
On Wednesday evening, October 9, 2025, the fire department was called to a fire in an apartment in the north of Leipzig. At 7:18 p.m., emergency services received the alarm that thick, dark smoke was coming from an apartment on Lindenthaler Hauptstrasse. The fire department responded immediately and determined that a technical defect in the kitchen was the cause of the fire. Equipped with breathing masks, the firefighters entered the smoke-filled apartment and immediately began extinguishing the fire.
The brave emergency services were quickly able to rescue two of the resident's dachshunds, who fortunately remained uninjured. The situation was more difficult for the resident herself, as the apartment was uninhabitable until further notice due to the heavy smoke. She had to find another place to sleep for the night while the fire department resolved the situation and completely extinguished the fire. No further injuries were reported and the operation was completed without any additional incidents.
Technical defects are a common cause of fire
House fires caused by technical defects are not uncommon. A similar incident occurred in Kerpen, for example, where the fire department was alerted due to smoke developing in a residential building. Here, a technical defect in a heating system in the basement led to a deflagration. Fortunately, there were no injuries in this case either, as the resident was able to escape outside before the fire department arrived. The fire brigade had to arrive to ventilate the heavily smoke-filled basement and ground floor and to switch off the heating system without there being an actual fire. The Kerpen fire department reported on the incident.
These two operations show the importance of the fire brigade's quick response and professional handling in dangerous situations. In the Leipzig case, the rapid intervention of the emergency services not only saved the dachshunds, but also prevented major damage. This makes it clear how crucial preventive measures to prevent fires and regular maintenance of technical systems are in order to avoid such dangerous situations.
That night, the Leipzig fire department once again demonstrated how important its role is in keeping citizens safe. The residents are certainly grateful for the quick and committed action of the fire brigade, which was able to prevent anything worse from happening.
