Uwe Madel celebrates 30 years of crime reporting at rbb!

The Berlin journalist Uwe Madel has been a defining voice in crime reporting for almost 30 years. He is currently presenting the crime magazine “Täter, Victim, Police” on rbb television. The format rises above mere entertainment and addresses real criminal cases in Berlin and Brandenburg. In each episode, investigators, experts and relatives of the victims will have their say, which makes the reporting particularly emotional and approachable. The relevance of these cases extends through the decades, as many of them are still touching years later. [rbb24] reports that Madel is recognized as an honorary commissioner of the Brandenburg police due to his expertise.

The program “Perpetrators – Victims – Police” has an impressive running time. On May 1, 2022, it celebrated its 30th anniversary with a special anniversary edition. This will be broadcast under the title “30 years of 'Perpetrators - Victims - Police'” and will focus on the most spectacular cases of the last three decades. [rbb-online] highlights that around 1,000 editions were produced and, remarkably, one in five cases was solved with the help of viewers. The show achieves an average market share of 13.1 percent, which underlines the high level of viewer loyalty.

Achievements and formats

As part of the anniversary, the fourth season of the true crime podcast “In the Sight – Hunting Criminals in Berlin and Brandenburg” also started. This offers another platform to shed light on the exciting and often tragic stories of crime in the region. For the podcast and the magazine itself, Madel regularly invites guests to discuss manhunt successes and shed light on the role of the public in solving crimes.

Uwe Madel is not only a presenter but also an author for the show. He was born in Frankfurt (Oder) in 1965 and studied journalism. His career in television began with German television broadcasting, and since May 1992 he has worked for ORB, later rbb. He received numerous awards for his commitment to crime reporting, including the “Berliner Krimifuchs” and the Goldene Kripomarke. His voluntary work in the “Weißer Ring” victim support association also shows his personal and social commitment.

The variety of formats that rbb television offers is underlined by the different broadcast times. The anniversary edition was shown on May 1st at 6:45 p.m., and for night owls there was a long night of highlights from the last 30 years from 1:55 a.m. to 5:40 a.m.

With his deep insight into the world of crime and his subsequent approach to solving it, Uwe Madel remains a central figure in the media's investigation of crimes. The combination of journalistic seriousness and emotional appeal makes his work valuable not only for the audience, but also for the society that he enriches with his research.
