On September 21, 2025, the popular dog bathing day will take place in the Lindenau outdoor pool in Hanau-Großauheim. The event starts at 10 a.m. and ends at 6 p.m. Entry is free for humans, but a fee of 3 euros is charged for dogs, of which 1 euro is donated to the Hanau animal shelter. This initiative has established itself as a real crowd puller since 2015; Last year the event attracted around 400 dogs and their owners.
Certain basic rules apply to dogs to ensure that the event runs smoothly. A valid vaccination certificate is required for every participating dog. Female dogs in heat are not allowed to take part in dog bathing day. Safety is also ensured by the requirement to be kept on a leash up to the entrance area of the swimming pool, before the dogs can jump through the water “off the leash” - a special treat for the animal participants. Dog owners should also bring poop bags to ensure hygiene.

The dog bath day offers numerous activities and entertainment for both the dogs and their people. While the four-legged participants splash around in the water and let off steam, the owners can visit information stands staffed by nutritionists and specialist retailers of dog food and accessories. An agility course will also be set up to provide additional action. Sponsors will offer small surprises at the entrance to make the experience even more attractive.
The hygiene and water quality of the outdoor pool are guaranteed by Hanauer Bäder GmbH. The water is left in the pool in winter, cleaned in spring and then filled with fresh water. On dog bathing day itself, the water level is lowered so that the dogs have easy access to the water. However, it is important to mention that the water has not been filtered or disinfected for a week.
