Leipzig swimming talents shine: gold and silver at DM!

The German All-Around Championships, which took place in Dortmund from June 7th to 9th, 2024, brought impressive successes for the Leipzig swimming talents. A total of 15 young athletes born in 2013 and 2014 took part in this prestigious event. The outstanding performers included Hanna Leonhardt, Jasper Müller and Malin Petzold from SSG Leipzig.

The SSG Leipzig was founded in 2008 and was created through the merger of several Leipzig swimming clubs. With around 3,200 members, it offers a professional environment in which to pursue competitive sports. The goal is to represent the best swimmers in the region at national and international competitions and to chase best times and medals.

Successful talents from Leipzig

The competition mode allowed the 80 best swimmers per year to qualify based on their times in the 200m individual medley. The athletes had to choose a type of swimming - dolphin, backstroke, breaststroke or front crawl - and complete an all-around competition consisting of different disciplines:

  • 400m Freistil
  • 200m Lagen
  • 25m Delfinbeine in Rücken- oder Bauchlage
  • 50m Beine, 100m und 200m in der gewählten Schwimmart

Points were awarded based on the times swam, with the highest score determining the placings. This performance-oriented structure contributed significantly to the outstanding results of the three Leutz swimmers.

A special highlight was the victory of Hanna Leonhardt, who won the first national championship title of her career in the breast all-around competition. Jasper Müller also won the silver medal in the all-around backstroke with a strong performance in the 200m individual medley and secured the runner-up title. Malin Petzold, on the other hand, improved her personal best times and took 17th place in the breast all-around.

The achievements achieved reflect the enormous potential of Leipzig swimming and are the result of hard work and committed support from the coaches and the entire club. The successes of the Leipzig swimmers not only show individual progress, but also the increasing quality and competitiveness of SSG Leipzig in national swimming.
