Leipzig swimming talents shine: gold and silver at DM!

The German all -around championship, which took place in Dortmund from June 7th to 9th, 2024, brought impressive success for the Leipzig swimming talents. A total of 15 young athletes from the 2013 and 2014 vintages took part in this prestigious event. The outstanding top performers included Hanna Leonhardt, Jasper Müller and Malin Petzold from SSG Leipzig.

The SSG Leipzig was founded in 2008 and was created by the merger of several Leipzig swimming clubs. With around 3,200 members, it offers a professional environment to pursue competitive sports. The aim is to represent the region's best swimmers in national and international competitions and to hunt best times and medals.

The competition mode allowed the 80 best swimmers per year to qualify over 200m based on their times. The athletes had to select a swimming type - dolphin, back, breast or crawl - and cope with an all -around battle that consisted of various disciplines:

• 400m freestyle
• 200m were
• 25m dolphin legs in the back or prone position
• 50m legs, 100m and 200m in the chosen swimming type

The awarding of points was based on the swam times, with the highest score decided on the placements. This performance -oriented structure contributed significantly to the outstanding results of the DRIE Leutzscher swimmers.

A special highlight was Hanna Leonhardt's victory, which was able to win the first national championship title of her career in the breast all-around. Jasper Müller also won the silver medal in the back all-around with a strong performance over 200m and secured the runner-up title. Malin Petzold, on the other hand, improved her personal best and took 17th place in the breast all-around.

The services achieved reflect the enormous potential of Leipzig swimming sports and are the result of hard work as well as committed support from the trainers and the entire association. The success of the Leipzig swimmers not only show individual progress, but also the increasing quality and competitiveness of SSG Leipzig in national swimming.
