Leipzig's mobility revolution: 15 new stations for environmentally friendly travel!

With the progressive expansion of the mobility network in Leipzig, the Leipziger Verkehrsbetriebe (LVB) is setting new standards in urban mobility. L-IZ reports that 15 new large mobility stations have been built and put into operation in the past few weeks.

These stations offer extensive options for getting around, including access to local public transport such as trams and buses as well as various offers for car sharing, bike and e-scooter sharing. Charging stations for private electric vehicles are also available in several cases, as are taxi parking spaces.

Future plans and expansions

In total, 400 new mobility stations and points are to be built in the city by 2030 in accordance with a city council resolution. The focus is on urban districts, public transport hubs and peripheral areas, which should enable comprehensive networking and improvement of mobility offers in the city. There are currently 48 mobility stations operated by the LVB l.de is highlighted.

In addition to the new large stations, three additional mobility stations will be opened in the coming weeks. These new locations bring the total number of mobility stations to over 200. Leipzig is thus making a significant contribution to promoting environmentally friendly mobility and increasing the attractiveness of local public transport.

Car sharing integration

An essential part of the new mobility strategy is the integration of car sharing providers. Since June 1st, two regional car sharing providers have been available to citizens. There are a total of 176 parking spaces at 64 locations, including 18 new locations with 38 additional parking spaces. Particularly noteworthy is the Halle-based company “Nach Mobil”, which will be present at the mobility stations with around 75 vehicles.

By the end of July 2025, around 50 vehicles are to be made available from “Now Mobile”, which can initially be booked via the respective provider apps. In the long term, however, the LVB plans to seamlessly integrate these car sharing offers into the central mobility platform LeipzigMOVE in order to offer users an even more user-friendly and comprehensive mobility solution.

These initiatives show that the city of Leipzig not only relies on the latest mobility technologies, but also wants to offer its citizens sustainable and flexible transportation options.
