On the night of Thursday, July 17, 2025, a betting shop in the Zentrum-Nord district of Leipzig was attacked. At around 11:25 p.m. there was a violent attack on a 21-year-old betting office employee on Eutritzscher Strasse/Gerberstrasse. According to lvz.de, the employee was attacked by several unknown perpetrators. One of the four robbers threatened him with violence and demanded access to the safe. The employee gave in to the demands, whereupon the perpetrators fled with an unknown amount of cash.

The police have started an investigation into aggravated robbery. Witnesses to the incident are called upon to report information to the criminal police at Dimitroffstrasse 1 in Leipzig. On the same evening, another betting shop was attacked, where an armed perpetrator threatened the 19-year-old cashier with a gun. Fearing for her life, she opened the safe and handed the robber the cash, which he had stashed in a beige bag before he fled. The cashier was found in a state of shock and taken to the hospital.

Investigation and arrest

As a result, a 25-year-old German, who already had a criminal record, was arrested two weeks after the attack. Evidence was found on him that supported the strong suspicion of aggravated robbery and led to his pre-trial detention. To date, no information has been released about the amount of money stolen, neither by the police nor by the betting provider.

The incidents highlight the security situation in the city and the challenges facing the police. The investigation is ongoing and officers are seeking information from the public in order to catch the perpetrators and prevent further attacks.
