HSV secures young goalkeeper Dickes from Leipzig – St. Pauli in need!
On June 22, 2025, Hamburger SV announced that they had signed Fernando Dickes as their third new signing. The 17-year-old goalkeeper is moving from RB Leipzig's youth ranks. This is part of a series of transfers currently taking place in the Bundesliga. Among other things, SpVgg Greuther Fürth is also borrowing a goalkeeper from RB Leipzig. This is Timo Schlieck, a 19-year-old U19 national player. Greuther Fürth has agreed a purchase option for the goalkeeper at the end of the loan, while RB Leipzig has secured a buyback option for Schlieck.
There is another exciting duel in the Bundesliga on Sunday: St Pauli meets RB Leipzig. St Pauli is currently in last place in the table with zero points after losing all three league games so far. In contrast, RB Leipzig are in 3rd place with seven points from three games, showing a clear difference in the form of both teams.
Form and statistics
The current situation at St Pauli is tense. The team has the fewest expected goals (xG), the fewest big chances and the fewest shots on goal in the league. Their last game, against Augsburg on September 15, ended in a 1-3 defeat, despite 57% possession. In this game the team missed six big chances and coach Alexander Blessin has only won one game in four competitions so far.
Unfortunately, St Pauli has to complain about several injured players. Among them are goalkeepers Sascha Burchert and Soren Ahlers as well as midfielder Conor Metcalfe. On the other hand, RB Leipzig has to do without Xaver Schlager, Forzan Assan Ouedraogo and Kevin Kampl. Despite these losses, Leipzig have shown that they are in good form, most recently with a 3-2 win against Bayer Leverkusen that ended their 35-game unbeaten streak.
Lineups and outlook
In the upcoming match, St Pauli is likely to line up in the following formation: Vasilj; Wahl, Smith, Mets; Faithful, Irvine, Boukhalfa, Ritzka; Afolayan, Saad; Eggestein. RB Leipzig is expected to play with the following line-up: Gulacsi; Henrichs, Orban, Castello, Space; Nusa, Haidara, Vermeeren, Xavi; Sesko, Openda.
With St Pauli's performance this season so far and RB Leipzig's current form, things are looking anything but rosy for the team from Hamburg. The pressure on coach Blessin is increasing as Leipzig wants to continue fighting for the top spots.
