Huge field fire on the Berliner Ring: A10 motorway closed!

On Sunday, June 29, 2025, a massive fire occurred on the northern Berlin Ring, setting fire to approximately 10 hectares of farmland. The major fire between the Berlin-Marzahn and Hohenschönhausen junctions led to considerable smoke that wafted across the motorway. As a result, the A10 motorway was closed in the direction of the Spreeau in order to protect road users and make the situation easier for the emergency services. Bild.de reports that the fire department called on drivers to be particularly careful using the NINA warning app.

The Hoppegarten fire department was on site with a total of 17 fire engines, supported by other fire departments from the Märkisch-Oderland and Barnim regions. Despite the intensive extinguishing work, the gusty wind repeatedly caused the flames to reignite. The firefighting work therefore took a long time, while long traffic jams formed on the motorway. The spokesman for the Potsdam situation center confirmed that a complete carriageway and the entrance to the junction were closed.

Traffic disruptions and warnings

The obstruction of visibility caused by the thick cloud of smoke led to significant traffic delays. According to maz-online.de, additional emergency services were requested to counteract the rapid spread of the fire. The population was also informed about the dangers posed by the thick smoke.

The exact circumstances that led to this fire are currently unclear. An initial police investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the fire. No injuries have been reported so far.

In addition, another field fire occurred in the Leipzig district of Holzhausen, which was reported at around 1:15 p.m. The fire apparently broke out here during the grain harvest and was brought under control around 4 p.m. It turns out that the warmth and dryness in the region is leading to an increase in such incidents.
