Speeders in front of daycare: Police stop speeders!

This Monday morning, June 24th, 2025, an extensive speed check took place in Porta Westfalica-Holzhausen by the traffic service of the Minden-Lübbecke police. The focus of the control was on Vlothoer Straße, directly in front of the AWO daycare center, where the speed limit is 30 km/h. This speed limit was put in place to ensure the special protection needs of children near educational institutions.

A total of 986 vehicles were measured during this inspection. The police discovered numerous speeding violations. When the data was evaluated, 92 drivers had to expect fines, while 53 vehicle drivers received administrative offense notices. What was particularly worrying was that eight drivers were found without a license as they were traveling well above the speed limit. The highest measured value reached 70 km/h, determined by a 40-year-old driver in a Ford van at 9:21 a.m.

Appeal to road users

The police are using this event to appeal to all road users to drive particularly responsibly, especially near daycare centers and schools. Excessive speed is one of the main causes of serious traffic accidents, which often endanger children in particular. Therefore, it is essential to observe speed limits in residential areas and near schools.

The police measures are part of an ongoing approach to increase road safety and raise awareness of driving behavior in sensitive areas. Given the dangers of excessive speed, there will continue to be increased controls at vulnerable locations to protect the safety of children and encourage road users to drive responsibly.
