Couple from Holzhausen discovers the Baltics: A cycling adventure!
Inge and Manfred Wagner from the Holzhausen district of Leipzig undertook an impressive five-week cycling trip to Poland and through the Baltic countries. The adventurous couple is known for going on long bike rides and this trip was a highlight of their shared passion for cycling. Manfred Wagner shared his experiences and impressions from the tour, which not only offered a sporting challenge but also cultural discoveries.
The starting point of their journey was a journey by train from Oldenburg to Kiel. There they took the DFDS ferry to Klaipeda in the evening, which turned out to be a positive experience. The ferry is particularly popular with long-distance drivers and offers a simple interior cabin with the necessary equipment. The atmosphere on board was described as “masculine”, which is probably due to the majority of passengers.
Course of the trip
The crossing took around 20 hours. On board there was a main restaurant where breakfast, lunch and dinner were served, as well as several bars and lounges where you could relax. When the weather was good, passengers were able to enjoy the beautiful Baltic Sea from various decks. The next day, the Wagners arrived in Klaipeda in the afternoon and immediately got on their bikes, ready to explore the beauties of the Baltics.
During their trip, Inge and Manfred experienced a variety of cultural and scenic impressions. From the Polish coast to the Lithuanian cities to the impressive landscapes in Latvia and Estonia, they were able to discover many facets of the Baltics. Their reports show that not only nature, but also the people and their hospitality left a lasting impression.
The Wagners advocate such cycling trips because they are not only physically demanding, but also offer a unique opportunity to intensively perceive and experience the surroundings. Their love of adventure and vacation together on two wheels are an inspiring example of how you can make active vacations meaningful and discover new horizons. These experiences brought the couple even closer together and may not have been their last big trip.
