Holzhausen, Deutschland - In Hesse, extensive measures to remove dead wood on state and district roads have started. Hessen Mobil will work in the Schwalm-Eder-Kreis between July 7 and 17, 2025 in several sections on different streets. The aim of this work is to ensure traffic safety and to minimize possible dangers through falling branches or crashes of trees.

The affected streets and their appointments are determined as follows:

  • K 145: Niedervorschütz - Lohre on July 07, 2025
  • k 8: Werkel - Obervorschütz on July 8th, 2025
  • K 5: Holzhausen - Haldorf from July 9th to 16th, 2025
  • L 3214: Geismar - Züschen on July 17, 2025

All working phases are fully blocked between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. and diversions are signposted in both directions. Hessen Mobil asks the residents for understanding for the associated traffic restrictions.

Fru.de , which was created on behalf of the Freiburg office for environmental monitoring, have investigations from mid-July to mid-August 2024 show that many trees have been severely damaged or already dead. During the survey, 2368 trees were examined in a dense grid of 250 x 250 meters.

Despite the precipitation of the previous year, the condition of the forests has hardly improved. The western forest in particular suffers from drought and shows a high mortality rate in older trees. However, there are slight improvements in the crown states and the foliage in the Ostwald, which are due to better water supply. The degree of damage in the Darmstadt city forest remains at a high level.

The report is presented to the specialist committees and the city council for knowledge and is already available in the parliamentary information system. The publication on the city's website is also planned.
