Bochingen surprises everyone and wins the Mühlbach Cup 2-0!
The 49th Mühlbach Cup took place in Wittershausen last weekend. In the final, SpVgg Bochingen met SG Vöhringen, the defending champions, who were aiming for their second title in a row. In an exciting game, Bochingen surprisingly won 2-0, which was unexpected even for their coach. The conditions for the final were quite demanding, but the Bochingers showed an impressive performance and finished the tournament as winners.
The Mühlbach Cup started on Thursday evening with Group B. In the opening game, TSG Wittershausen and SGM SV Bergfelden/SG Mühlheim-Renfrizhausen drew 2-2. Further exciting encounters followed on Friday, including a narrow 1-0 win for VfR Sulz against Spvgg Bochingen. Things got intense on Saturday too: TSG Wittershausen beat Sulz 3-1, while Bochingen secured their place in the semi-finals with a 2-0 win against Wittershausen.
The path to the final
SG Vöhringen and SG SV Rosenfeld/Spfr started in Group A. Isingen/Brittheim with a 1-1 draw. SV Fischingen and SG Holzhausen/VfR Sulz/Sigmarswangen II also drew 1-1. Vöhringen then showed strong and took first place in the group, beating Fischingen 2-0 and Rosenfeld 4-0. The Holzhausen, however, failed despite four points due to the negative goal difference.
In the semi-finals, SG Vöhringen won 2-1 against VfR Sulz, while SpVgg Bochingen won against SG Rosenfeld 6-4 after a thrilling penalty shootout. In the game for third place, Rosenfeld beat VfR Sulz 4-2.
The final: Bochingen is crowned winner
In the final, Heiko Kanz was the decisive man for SpVgg Bochingen when he scored both goals for a 2-0 win. This performance not only secured the cup victory, but also caused great joy in the Bochingen camp. After the tournament, the Bochingen coach said that he himself had not expected this title success, which makes the surprise even greater.
The tournament was organized smoothly by the host team, TSG Wittershausen. Not only did they ensure everything went smoothly, but they also offered an inclusive game as part of the supporting program, which was well received by the spectators. The Mühlbach Cup proved once again that it is an important part of the regional football culture, and SpVgg Bochingen can now rightly be happy about their title.
