After 9th place: SPG Pettenbach/Grünau plans to attack the top 5!
After a mixed 2024/25 season, which ended with ninth place in the Landesliga West, the SPG Pettenbach/Grünau is optimistic about the challenges ahead. Coach Rainer Kührer expressed his satisfaction with the team's performance and the positive development that was achieved despite many injuries during the season. This meant the team was able to operate without the risk of relegation and thus fulfilled their expectations.
The SPG is now planning targeted personnel changes during the summer break. A central goal is to integrate young talent more closely into the team and promote playing stability. In addition, a balanced mix of experienced and young players should be created to increase consistency. “We have a lot of young, talented players, but we often lack experience,” explained Kührer. Sporting director Walter Waldhör is optimistic and believes that a place in the top five next season is realistic, “if we work hard,” he added.
Personnel changes and new additions
A number of changes have already been made during the summer transfer period. Alois Pühringer has left the club for Salzburg, while Tobias Riedler has moved to Wallern. In order to give local talent more opportunities, Dejan Erak and Niklas Gösweiner were also given away.
New to the team are Antonio Dukic, who comes from Union Adlwang, and Fabian Altmanninger, who returns after a short interlude at SV Kuchl. The two brothers Thomas and Andreas Helmberger were signed by SV Grün-Weiß Micheldorf to stabilize the defense. In addition, Alexander Meister, who played for Pettenbach between 2014 and 2017, comes into midfield.
Preparation and first test games
The start of training with the new players took place on July 3rd and the first sessions went well. The main aim is to quickly integrate the new recruits into the team and strengthen team unity. A first tough test in the State Cup is scheduled for July 25th against Union St. Florian, followed by the start of the league on August 8th in the ROBEX Arena against SC Schwanenstadt.
In summary, SPG Pettenbach/Grünau is determined to take up the positive approaches from last season and show an even better performance in the coming games. Even though the competition in the league is strong, those responsible are optimistic that with hard work and commitment the team can achieve its desired place among the top five teams.
