Robert Farken wins gold and shines at DM in Dresden!
At the 125th German Athletics Championships in Dresden, Robert Farken from SG Motor Gohlis-Nord once again climbed the winner's podium. He secured the gold medal in the 1,500 meters, cementing his place at the top. Farken, who triumphed with a time of 3:46.96 minutes, was the only Leipziger to win a title this year. This is reported by L-IZ.
The championships took place in the newly renovated Heinz Steyer Stadium and were part of the major sporting event “The Finals 2025”. Farken, who had previously set the national record over 1,500 meters with 3:30.80 minutes, once again proved his class. During the race he initially stayed in third and fourth position before making the decisive final sprint on the last lap and leaving his competition behind.
Successes of the Leipzig athletes
In addition to Farken's impressive win, SC DHfK Leipzig achieved multiple top six finishes. Hannah Stegenwallner ran the 3,000 meter steeplechase to fifth place and set a personal best of 9:58.32 minutes. At the same distance, Lilly Steingaß took 14th place with 10:57.03 minutes.
Oliver Kreisel also showed a strong performance with his sixth place in the 1,500 meter final (3:49.48 minutes). The 4x100 meter relay with Charlotte Riedel, Joelina Miltschus, Mia Besser and Lilly Heilmann rounded off the SC DHfK's good result and came sixth in a time of 45.53 seconds.
Further placings from the SC DHfK squad are: Fritz Stubenrauch (20th place / 5,000 meters, 14:34.29 minutes) and Joelina Miltschus (32nd place / 100 meters, 11.76 seconds). Despite a personal record time of 46.56 seconds, Rocco Martin from SG MoGoNo missed the 400 meter final and came ninth. Other MoGoNo athletes, such as Lilly Empl (19th place / 100 meter hurdles, 13.94 seconds) and Anna-Maria Hofmann (20th place / 400 meters, 55.32 seconds), also achieved remarkable achievements.
Robert Farken's road to the Olympics
Robert Farken is already looking ahead to the challenges ahead, especially the Olympic Games in Paris. He plans to compete in three 1,500-meter races there and aims to reach the final. His success in Dresden follows a historic double win in Braunschweig, where he won gold in both the 800 meters and 1,500 meters. This is the first time since 1973 that a DLV middle distance athlete has won both titles at the German Championships, as leichtathletik.de informs.
Farken will complete a high-altitude training camp in St. Moritz before the Olympic Games in order to prepare optimally. The final pre-Games test will be at the Diamond League meeting in London on July 20, where he will compete over a mile.
The performances of the Leipzig athletes and in particular Farken's successful run make the fans and those responsible optimistic about the challenges ahead. The German Championships have once again shown what potential there is in regional athletics.
