Young people in Leipzig stopped attempting to rob – witnesses urgently wanted!

On June 21, 2025, the Leipziger Internetzeitung reports on a series of incidents that have happened in Leipzig and the surrounding area in the last few days. The police are investigating several crimes, including robbery, theft and firefighting operations.

On June 16, 2025, a robbery occurred in the Burghausen-Rueckmarsdorf district of Leipzig. Several young people met, which led to a verbal argument between three suspects aged 14 and 16 and two other young people. Although the suspects tried to demand valuables, they were not handed over. An unknown witness intervened and was able to de-escalate the situation without causing any injuries. The police are now looking for this helper to obtain further information. Information can be given to the Leipzig Criminal Investigation Department on (0341) 966 4 6666.

Poaching and arson attacks

Another notable event occurred on June 19, 2025 in Gohlis-Mitte, where a 32-year-old Ukrainian woman stole a moorhen chick that had been caught in Arthur Bretschneider Park. An attentive witness immediately informed the police, who took the chick from the woman and handed it over to the mother. Investigations into hunting poaching have been initiated.

In addition, there was a roof structure fire in Lößnig on June 20, 2025. A fire broke out in the attic of a ten-story apartment building, resulting in heavy smoke. Firefighters were able to prevent the fire from spreading to inhabited areas. Fortunately, there were no injuries and no evacuation was necessary. The damage to the upper apartments caused by extinguishing work and water is currently unclear. As a precautionary measure, investigators are examining the possibility of negligent arson.

Burglaries and traffic accidents

The investigations in Leipzig are not just limited to arson and poaching. A blue VW Multivan was stolen in Gohlis-Nord between June 19 and June 20, 2025. The value of the vehicle is around 38,000 euros. The vehicle has been declared a wanted vehicle and investigations into particularly serious theft are ongoing.

Thefts have also increased: in the center of Leipzig, several musical instruments were stolen from a rehearsal room between June 18 and 20, 2025. The damage caused by theft amounts to tens of thousands of euros, while the property damage is estimated at around 100 euros. Investigations are also underway here.

Traffic in Leipzig does not remain unaffected by these events. On June 20, 2025 there was a dooring accident in Paunsdorf. A 59-year-old driver opened the door of his Opel Corsa car without paying attention to the approaching motorcyclist, who was seriously injured. The property damage amounted to around 7,000 euros. The police are investigating charges of endangering road traffic and negligent bodily harm. Another traffic accident with four injuries occurred on the same day in Thallwitz, where two VW Golfs collided head-on, resulting in significant property damage and injuries.

The current situation in Leipzig paints a picture of increasing crime, which the authorities want to bring under control. Regular patrols and calls for citizens' help are part of the strategy to ensure safety in the city.
