Germany starts strong in the U21 European Championship: goals for the title!

The UEFA U21 European Championships start in Slovakia from Wednesday, June 11, 2025. 16 teams will fight for the title until June 28, 2025, with the final taking place in Bratislava. The German U21 national team is in Group B, in which the team meets Slovenia, the Czech Republic and defending champions England. The first game against Slovenia will take place on Thursday at 9 p.m. and will be broadcast live on Sat.1, followed by the game against the Czech Republic on Sunday and the duel with England on June 18th.

In total, the games will be played in eight cities: Bratislava, Trnava, Nitra, Dunajská Streda, Kosice, Zilina, Presov and Trencin. The DFB team has taken up residence in Modra, about 35 kilometers northeast of Bratislava. The preliminary round also includes an early game at 6 p.m. and three later games on the first two match days.

Strong squad and role as favorites

The German team is one of the favorites for the tournament. After the preliminary round exit at the 2023 European Championship, the team is undefeated in 15 games under coach Antonio Di Salvo. Germany has already won the European Championship titles in 2009, 2017 and 2021 and, with a market value of 215 million euros, occupies the third highest place in the tournament, behind England (410 million euros) and France (330 million euros). Betting provider bwin sees Germany and Spain as favorites with odds of 5.00, followed by England and France, which are listed with odds of 6.00.

The German team's squad includes captain Eric Martel from 1. FC Köln, while goalkeeper Noah Atubolu will be in his second tournament. Particularly noteworthy is the player Castello Lukeba from RB Leipzig, who competes with the French U21 and is also hoping for the title. Interestingly, players over the age of 21 are also allowed to participate, as long as they were born on the deadline of January 1, 2002 or later.

Broadcasts and viewer interest

The European U21 fans can look forward to exciting encounters. All group games of the German team will be broadcast live on Sat.1. In addition, selected games can be seen on ProSieben MAXX, while all games can be accessed streaming via ran.de. The spectator capacities at the venues range from 6,000 to 22,000, which should ensure an atmospheric spectator moment.

Overall, it is to be expected that the U21 European Championship will not only serve as a sporting opportunity, but also as a platform for young talents, some of whom are already Bundesliga legionnaires. It will be exciting to see whether the DFB team can stand on the highest podium again after their recent successes. Things are getting serious for the tournament and the teams involved from the first day of the match, and the tension is already growing.
