David Wagner takes over as youth boss: RB Leipzig relies on talent!
RB Leipzig has made a change in the management of its youth department. Manuel Baum was dismissed as junior leader because he wanted to resign from the position after two years for personal reasons. Baum returns to FC Augsburg to take over the position as head of the youth academy. His successor will be David Wagner, who at the age of 53 has had a remarkable career in German football and became known as Bundesliga coach of Schalke 04.
Wagner, who has already proven himself in the youth sector, coached, among others, TSG Hoffenheim and Borussia Dortmund. In Leipzig he will focus primarily on promoting his own talents and integrating them into the first team. This is particularly important for the club to remain competitive in the Bundesliga. His experience also includes a career in the UK, where he led Huddersfield Town to the Premier League, as well as spells at Young Boys Bern and Norwich City after parting ways with Schalke in 2020. Particularly noteworthy is the good relationship between Wagner and Jürgen Klopp, with whom he appeared together at the Wings Cup in Leipzig.
Schalke's recent successes
The defeat had far-reaching consequences for RB Leipzig as it dropped them to second place in the Bundesliga, while Bayern Munich beat Paderborn. Marcel Sabitzer also missed the chance of an earlier goal when he hit the crossbar, while Schalke goalkeeper Alexander Nubel made a spectacular double save to thwart Forsberg and Sabitzer's goals twice.
The signing of Wagner in Leipzig represents a reversal of the situation that followed Baum three years ago following his dismissal at Schalke. With his expertise and focus on youth, Wagner could create the basis for even more talented players to emerge from the youth academy in the future.
