Syrian driver in court: 3 years in prison after spectacle on the highway!

On Tuesday, October 7, 2025, the verdict was handed down against a Syrian citizen at the Dresden Regional Court. The man, who was charged with seven counts of attempted murder, received a total sentence of 3 years and 4 months. He was charged with serious charges, including smuggling in foreigners and causing a dangerous traffic offense. The public prosecutor, however, demanded a sentence of eight years, which underlines the seriousness of his crimes.

The case revolves around a fateful incident on June 22, 2023, when the defendant fled from the police in a Renault Laguna on the BAB17 motorway at around 200 km/h. He endangered numerous road users, raced through red lights and ultimately landed his vehicle in a fire pond. Seven people who had entered the country illegally got out, while some of them suffered injuries and required medical treatment. After an international manhunt, the driver was arrested in Croatia in January 2025 and extradited to Germany. The public prosecutor's office now wants to appeal the verdict, so it is not yet legally binding.
