Smuggling in sight: Czech arrested with mountain of cigars near Zittau!
A 29-year-old Czech man was caught by federal police at the Zittau Friedensstrasse border crossing on July 23, 2025 while he was trying to smuggle five bags of tobacco and 15 cartons of cigarettes from Poland to Germany. The officers discovered 3,000 L&M and WINSTON brand cigarettes as well as 340 grams of WEST brand tobacco among the cigarettes.
The amount significantly exceeded the permitted allowance. The Federal Customs Administration took over the matter and seized the illegal goods. The suspected smuggler will have to face criminal proceedings for tax fraud.
