On Sunday evening, a 54-year-old Polish citizen was arrested by the federal police at a motorway checkpoint. The reason for the arrest? An arrest warrant from the Regensburg public prosecutor's office because of an unpaid fine of 4,860 euros that was imposed for drunk driving almost three years ago. The man will now spend a few weeks in a correctional facility because he was unable to pay the fine.
Another Polish citizen, 47 years old, was able to escape prison on Sunday morning. He had been convicted of insults, but paid 662 euros to avoid the alternative imprisonment. After his release, the bus with which he had crossed the Görlitz city bridge continued its journey towards Heidelberg.
