Bahnchaos between Chemnitz and Leipzig: Initiative raises the alarm!

Leipzig, Deutschland - The chemnitz rail initiative sounds the alarm. Again and again there are problems on the regional express line to Leipzig, which are expressed in the form of almost weekly failures, delays and capacity bottlenecks. According to Sebastian Drechsler, the spokesman for the initiative, this important connection is threatened with a total failure. Frustration among passengers grows, which only reinforces the urgency of the situation. Drechsler therefore demands increasingly reliable additional traffic every two hours via Riesa.

The initiative also points to the possibility of renting additional trains to compensate for the technical failures. It is emphasized that the current rail connection is not sufficient to cover the need in regional traffic. According to MDR, an expansion of the existing intercity connection between Chemnitz and Rostock is even required to overload the overload via Leipzig to reduce.

capacity bottlenecks and technical problems

Currently only diesel vehicles run between Chemnitz and Leipzig. While the railway initiative is urging additional electrical engines of the Central Saxony Transport Association (VMS), however, poor resources and trained train drivers are a big topic. There is currently uncertainty as to whether Deutsche Bahn has enough trains and staff for the connection to reserve.

These uncertainties have been reinforced by the problems with older double-decker trains, which have been considered little reliable since the 1990s. The odor nuisances in the car are particularly horrific for passengers, which have arisen due to technical defects such as the insertion of diesel exhaust gases over the air conditioning systems. In this context, a wagon has already been closed towards Leipzig, since the turning time in Chemnitz is not sufficient to ventilate the car sufficiently.

wishes and demands of the rail initiative

The rail initiative also makes it clear that there are already train connections between Chemnitz and Riesa, which have so far been mainly used for major events. A sensible transition solution could thus be the introduction of additional trains on these routes. According to current plans, it is planned to use the new generation of ALSTOM battery woven, but the delivery is delayed and older double -decker trains had to be rented as a replacement.

The initiative calls on the state government to quickly provide funds for the expansion of the route. "We are faced with a massive problem that can no longer be ignored," emphasizes Drechsler. The situation demands both politics and the railway company to find timely solutions to ensure mobility between Chemnitz and Leipzig.
