Traffic chaos in Dresden: Velorace brings the city center to a standstill!

An exciting weekend is just around the corner for all cycling enthusiasts in Dresden! The much anticipated Velorace will take place on Sunday, August 10, 2025. On Saturday, August 9th, the city will be captivated by the young athletes in the children's and youth race. But be careful – this sporting event also comes with some traffic restrictions.

The Velorace promises to transform the streets of the state capital into an exciting competition scenario. To mark the event, there will be some traffic restrictions in the city center from Friday August 8th and throughout the weekend until Sunday August 10th. The Terrassenufer will be completely closed from Friday afternoon to Sunday evening. All drivers are strongly advised to avoid non-essential trips to the city center on Sundays between 6 a.m. and 5 p.m.

The Veloraces circuit extends over a variety of roads that are closed during the race. This applies, among other things, to:

  • Vogesenweg
  • Käthe-Kollwitz-Ufer stadteinwärts

  • Terrassenufer

The race track will be completely closed on Sunday from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pedestrians also have to expect limited opportunities to cross the cycle track, and numerous traffic lights on the route will be deactivated. Therefore, all road users should exercise increased vigilance at stops and when crossing tram tracks. Changes and restrictions to bus and tram lines have also been announced, and Dresdner Verkehrsbetriebe AG (DVB) will publish corresponding notices of timetable changes.
