Dresden celebrates its first skate park under the bridge – a paradise for skaters!
Dresden's skaters finally have reason to be happy! Since Monday, August 4, 2025, they can look forward to their place under the Löbtauer Bridge again. As part of the first construction phase, the skate area on Columbusstrasse was provided with a new layer of asphalt and equipped with new drainage. This not only ensures better driving comfort, but also greater safety - especially when it rains.
But that's not all! The new skate surface has a lot to offer. With an impressive ten meter long RoundRail, a metal obstacle that can be used for numerous tricks in skate sports, skaters won't get bored so quickly. This facility is not only a highlight for professionals, but also a great place for beginners who want to improve their skills. According to dresden.de, it is also the first publicly usable skate area under a bridge in Dresden, which offers users protection from rain and at the same time creates shady areas in summer.
Construction progress and future prospects
However, the facility is not yet completely finished. Further skate elements and a design of the surrounding area are already planned for the next steps. The design for the completion is ready, and if financing is secured, the skate facility will be expanded to include large skate elements, seating, parkour elements and bicycle racks as part of a second construction phase in 2026. This outlook gives skaters of all ages in the city further incentive to get actively involved and stay loyal to the community.
An important part of the project was the participation process, which began in November 2023. Two events took place at which users were given the opportunity to contribute their wishes and suggestions. Many of the skaters' concerns were incorporated into the planning, which shows that the needs of the community were seriously taken into account.
With a lot of commitment, the city of Dresden has taken the initiative to support the skater scene and create a place where young and old can feel comfortable. It remains exciting to see how the skate area continues to develop and what new opportunities will arise for Dresden's skaters in the coming years.
