From July 1, 2023, the renovated cultural factory “Werk 2” in Leipzig will be comprehensively modernized. The planned work cost around 2.7 million euros and focuses on improving fire protection and eliminating structural defects. The aim is to ensure the safety and functionality of the premises without unduly affecting ongoing cultural operations. The renovation will be carried out with the greatest respect for the listed industrial architecture, which is particularly important for the events in Hall A.
As the LVZ reported, Hall A will remain closed for several months during the summer months of 2025 and 2026. From July to August, cultural workers must refrain from using this hall. However, gaming operations should largely be maintained as large rooms remain open during this time.
Planned measures
Various measures are planned to ensure safety in cultural use:
- Erneuerung der Fluchtwegsysteme und Brandmeldeanlagen in Halle A und D.
- Einbau barrierefreier WCs in Halle D und im Innenhof vor Halle A.
- Einrichtung gesetzlich geforderter Brandabschnitte.
Jürgen Ackermann, a representative of “Werk 2”, describes the renovation as a milestone for the site. This will significantly improve the center's capabilities for future cultural events. Head of Culture Office Tobias Kobe emphasizes how important these renovation measures are for securing the future of a central socio-cultural focal point in Leipzig MDR notes.

During the construction period between September 2025 and June 2026, the work should not interfere with the events, which will allow the artists to continue pursuing their passion.
