Andreas Toba and the challenges
This European Championship becomes particularly emotional for Andreas Toba, since he ends his career in the national team after this competition and acts as a national coach in Hanover. He took part in four Olympic Games and numerous other international events. All eyes will be aimed at him and his teammates, especially after the first competition results came to the public. Toba has already reached the Reck final, while the male team took fourth place in the all-around.
There were also setbacks on the health side: Helen Kevric was injured in the kneecapes and will not take part in the uneven bars. On the first day of the competition, Timo Eder and Karina Schönmaier won gold in the mixed team finals, which gave the German athletes a positive start. Overall, the teams from Great Britain, Switzerland and Italy prove the medal ranks in the team competition.
Furthermore, the topic of “Safe Sport” is prioritized as part of the gymnastics festival in order to promote positive and safe coexistence. A code of honor defines rules of conduct to ensure that all participants feel comfortable and treat each other with respect. In the case of cross-border situations, a help and care telephone is available to offer support.
For the coming days and competitions in Leipzig, the atmosphere remains tense and optimistic, while the gymnasts start for their countries and personal best.
