Technology inspires: Rover challenge and children's night race in Leipzig!

On Sunday, August 10, 2025, the Alte Messe site in Leipzig will open its doors for the first international Rover Challenge and the 21st Children's Night Race. The event, which takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., is aimed at families and offers a varied program for young and old.

The Rover Challenge inspires students between the ages of 10 and 16 and provides a platform on which participants can test moon buggies - all-terrain vehicles for two people in a reclining position. These special vehicles have been designed by students over the past 18 years and are part of an upcoming competition in the US at NASA. Over 300 young people have already benefited from their participation, which is reflected in improved school grades and possible careers in science, technology and industry.

Diverse competitions and challenges

In the Rover Challenge, participants have to overcome various obstacles, complete speed tests and pass technical assessments on an 800-meter-long route. The event has a clear objective: it promotes inventiveness, technical skills and scientific understanding.

The children, on the other hand, can let off steam at the 21st children's night race, which is designed for children aged 3 to 12. Registrations are possible until August 6th, and the round will be held in the parking lot of the Stadler two-wheel center, as construction work affects the cycle track. The race track stretches along the Straße des 18. Oktobers. The program includes numerous hands-on activities, a raffle and a catering offer, and a fee of two euros per start is charged to support the Wolfsträne e.V. association for grieving children and young people.

Introductory day and further supporting program

An introductory day is planned for August 9th from 6 p.m. at the Jesco von Puttkamer School in Leipzig. These events are an excellent opportunity to bring young people interested in technology and their families together and to promote the common goal: enthusiasm for technology, movement and togetherness.

The Kick-off event promises a large audience turnout, with around 3,000 visitors expected. In addition to competition, sustainable micromobility should also come to the fore. In addition, young people up to the age of 25 are permitted to take part in the Rover Challenge and there is the possibility that future events will also take place in international cities.

At their core, both events not only promote team spirit and technical creativity, but also prepare participants for a promising future in science and technology.
