Crime at Leipzig Central Station: Alarming annual record 2024!
Crime at Leipzig Central Station: Alarming annual record 2024!
Leipzig, Deutschland - The security situation at Leipzig main station remains tense. The joint operational group "Bahnhof-Zentrum" (Gegen Baze) today published its annual balance sheet and presented alarming numbers. The main station, which counts around 135,000 visitors every day and is considered to be the largest station in Germany in terms of area, is increasingly affected by crime. In 2024, the Federal Police registered over 1,000 violent violations, while a total of around 3,400 crimes were recorded in the area of responsibility of the police station. This is a clear increase in violent offenses compared to previous years.
Overall, the opposite baze held over 4,600 controls last year, in which around 2,400 people were searched. Here, too, the numbers are worrying: 268 references were granted, and 93 people had to be arrested temporarily. In addition, over 1,800 grams of narcotics were ensured in more than 570 crimes. The main types of crime at the train station are property and narcotics crime as well as crimes.
violent offenses and thefts in focus
The annual balance sheet shows that violent crime in 2022 increased by 76.5 percent compared to the previous year. This is reflected in the increase in violent offenses, which were recorded in particular at the main outputs of the train station and in the neighboring areas such as the small Willy-Brandt-Platz, the Schwanenteich and the Mayor-Müller-Park. In 2022, over 45 violent offenses were registered there. The thefts have also reached an alarming level with 785 cases, which corresponds to an increase of 67 percent.
According to the balance sheet of TAG24, the thefts have thus been reached again at pre-corona level. This development is often attributed to the elimination of the Corona rules and the increase in the so-called scene clientele.
fight against crime
In order to counteract the increasing crime, the opponent's opponent works closely with the city council service and the DB security. Regular stripes and focus operations should increase the security in and around the main train station. According to the balance sheet, the opposite baze refunded over 50 of around 1,600 ownership offenses that were registered in the main train station. In addition, there were over 400 ownership offenses in the city center, many of them under violence, such as the use of knives or pepper spray.
Another aspect of this cooperation showed the so-called "quadro strips", in which foreign officials were deployed together with German police officers during the football European championship. During these missions, perpetrators, such as a Portuguese pickpockets, were also arrested by targeted measures on site.
The positive development of recent years, such as the decline in violent acts and the security precautions at major events, seemed to be questioned again by the current statistics. It remains to be seen how the security situation at Leipzig's main station will develop and what measures are taken to stop these worrying trends. Public security in one of the most central places in the city has top priority.
