Red alert: Fraudsters ring, gas station is robbed and moped accident!

On July 18, 2025, several incidents were reported in Leipzig and the surrounding area, including brazen telephone fraud and various break-ins.

A particularly sensational case occurred in Neustadt-Neuschönefeld. Here, on July 17th at 10:20 a.m., an unknown person posed as a bank employee and called a 62-year-old woman. He informed her that almost 10,000 euros had been withdrawn from her account. To get the money back, she should make a transaction. This turned out to be fraud, so the Leipzig-Zentrum police started an investigation into fraud. The increase in such attempted fraud through telephone calls and messages is striking. The consumer advice center warns against responding to such calls, as unexpected bills often follow based on a supposed “yes” that is elicited during the conversation. Consumers should respond sensitively to such requests and, if necessary, take legal action to avert unjustified claims.

More break-ins and thefts in the area

The night before, between 2:30 and 2:45 a.m., there was a break-in at a gas station in Schkeuditz. Unknown people forced their way in and stole tobacco products worth several thousand euros. The perpetrators loaded the loot into a van that had stolen license plates. Here too, the criminal police have started investigations into a particularly serious case of theft.

In Leipzig-Südvorstadt, a white Seat Alhambra that was parked on the side of the road was stolen on July 17th. The vehicle, valued at over 10,000 euros, was reported stolen the next morning. An investigation into this case has also been initiated.

In addition, packages were stolen from a post office in Wurzen between 4:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. on the same day. The material damage here was estimated at around 500 euros.

Traffic accident in the evening

Another incident occurred on July 17th at 9:15 p.m. in Markranstädt, where a 23-year-old moped driver was injured in a traffic accident. The young man wanted to turn left onto Leipziger Straße and overlooked a VW Amarok that had the right of way. Due to his injuries, he had to be hospitalized. The police have also started investigating the circumstances of the accident in this case.

The large number of these incidents highlights the current security situation in the region and the urgency to act quickly, especially if fraud is suspected.
