Children's musical Our Luther”: A highlight for the whole family in Leipzig!

A special event is coming up in Leipzig's Luther Church: the children's musical “Our Luther” will be performed in November 2025. The play tells the story of the famous reformer Martin Luther, but from the perspective of children. Preparations are already in full swing as the forum thomanum primary school is rehearsing for the premiere with several grade levels.

The students take on the roles of monastery students, nuns and indulgence dealers and deal with questions of faith and thought in a creative way. The musical's premiere is scheduled for Friday, November 7, 2025 at 4:00 p.m. The musical will also be performed on Saturday, November 8, 2025. Tickets are already available via Eventbrite.

Collaboration and musical accompaniment

The musical is accompanied musically by the choir and orchestra of the forum thomanum elementary school. Under the direction of Prof. Matthias Oldag, the artists Matthias Schubotz and Maria Leistner take over the musical direction. The composition was by Gerd-Peter Münden, while the text was written by Brigitte Antes. The production is organized by forum thomanum Leipzig e.V., an educational campus with a special linguistic and musical profile.

The Luther Church, which was renovated for energy efficiency in 2024, not only offers optimal space for the performances, but also outstanding acoustics. This project was able to be realized thanks to funding from the Leipzig Foundation and co-financing from tax funds from the Saxon State Parliament. The cooperation partners are the Leipzig Opera and the Leipzig University of Music and Theater “Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy”.
