Sparkasse Leipzig: Together for clean waters at the city harbor!

On August 20, 2025, Sparkasse Leipzig employees sent a strong signal for environmental protection. As part of a cleanup campaign, they cleared the city's waterways of rubbish. This initiative began at the boat rental shop at the city harbor and extended over the Elstermühlgraben, the Elsterflutbett and a section of the Weißen Elster, as leipziginfo.de reports.

Organized by Carsten Kapitza, the sponsoring manager at Sparkasse Leipzig, the participants worked not only to clean up the waters, but also to promote a sense of community and team spirit within the company. The employees traveled in five boats and spent several hours collecting a variety of rubbish, including bizarre finds. Equipped with gloves and grippers, they received support from two guides from Stadthafen Leipzig GmbH.

Results of the action

In total, a considerable amount of rubbish was collected, which was stored in a wheelbarrow and several rubbish bags. What was particularly notable was the predominant amount of scrap metal, while floating plastic waste was only found in small quantities. This campaign, which was the second of its kind, aims to raise awareness of the importance of environmental protection, Kapitza continued.

In the spring of this year, Sparkasse Leipzig had already carried out a similar cleaning in collaboration with the Leipzig City Harbor and the Leipzig Sports High School. The continuation of these environmentally conscious activities is already planned: A new cleanup campaign will take place on September 19, 2025, and this time students from the Palmengarten school will be involved in the commitment.

Sparkasse’s commitment to sustainability

Through such campaigns, Sparkasse Leipzig shows its strong commitment to sustainability. Further information about the Sparkasse's initiatives can be found on its official website, where further details about its comprehensive sustainability concept are also available, as sparkasse-leipzig.de adds.

With this ongoing support for environmental protection, Sparkasse Leipzig not only sends an important signal to the public, but also encourages other companies and citizens to actively contribute to the cleanliness of waterways.
