Leipzig and Taucha are planning a major project: New industrial area near Merkwitz!

The cities of Leipzig and Taucha have presented plans for a joint commercial and industrial area near Merkwitz. This initiative aims to secure the region's economic future and create new, high-quality jobs. The planned area will cover approximately 46 hectares and is part of an expansion of the existing North Industrial Park. Loud L-IZ One to three companies will initially be established, which will create a total of 500 jobs, with the possibility of increasing this number to 1,000 in the long term.

An essential part of the planning is the planned resolution of the Taucha city council to disclose the development plan for the “Merkwitz commercial and industrial area”. This will be presented in the November issue of the Tauchaer Stadtanzeiger, which will be distributed in Taucha households from October 28, 2025. The area is accessed via the existing BMW-Allee, which also offers a direct connection to the A14 motorway.

Sustainable design and infrastructure

The plans also provide for a sustainable design of the area. This includes extensive compensatory measures such as the upgrading of around 40 hectares of green spaces. According to the information from Taucha.de The outskirts of Merkwitz are protected by a tree block as a privacy screen and a minimum distance of 300 meters. With regard to noise pollution, no additional burdens are permitted.

An innovative rainwater concept is intended to help relieve pressure on the surrounding area. Furthermore, the promotion of green roofs and facades as well as the installation of photovoltaic systems on at least 30% of the roof areas are planned. The transport infrastructure is planned to improve the cycle paths and the connection to local public transport (ÖPNV) around Merkwitz.

Economic impact and future steps

The arrival of new companies is expected to not only increase purchasing power in Taucha, but also generate higher business tax revenue for local infrastructure, which includes, among other things, roads, sidewalks and schools. The development and marketing of the area is carried out by Leipzig and Taucha in close cooperation. An information meeting for the citizens of Merkwitz is intended to present the plans and clarify questions.

These strategic measures and plans are planned for the long term in the West Saxony regional plan and the land use plan and represent a significant step for economic and urban development in the region.
