Blitzer campaign in Leipzig: Where there are pace controls today!

On September 21, 2025, traffic safety in Leipzig was once more in focus. There are currently two streets in the Saxon metropolis where targeted speed measurements take place. This is confirmed by a current report from News.de, which points out that the police in Saxony continuously monitor road traffic. The temporary speed measurements are part of a comprehensive EFFORG to ensure traffic safety and minimize accidents.

Two specific speed camera locations were reported in Leipzig: Sommerfelder Straße in Mölkau with a speed limit of 20 km/h and Riesaer Straße in Paunsdorf, where a higher speed limit of 60 km/h applies. Both measurements took place on September 21, 2025, with Sommerfelder Straße at 2:30 p.m. and Riesaer Straße was checked at 2:29 p.m. The last stand of the information dates to 3:11 p.m. that day.

The importance of speed limits

As the ADAC explains, speed limits not only serve the order in road traffic, but are also an essential factor for traffic safety. Above all, speed overruns are common violations that have been shown to be the number one cause of the accident. Therefore, all road users are urgently advised to adhere to the given speed limits.

The speed is checked by different measurement methods, which must strictly comply with the regulations of the German Road Traffic Regulations. These include laser measurements, radar measurements and induction loops. Each procedure has its own functional, all of which must be technically checked and approved. This ensures that the measurement results are consistent and legitimate.

Rules and guidelines for speed measurements

In addition, the regulations for the installation of speed measuring systems, such as minimum distances to traffic signs, are clearly regulated. These amounts are usually between 150 and 200 meters, even if exceptions are possible. The federal states have their own guidelines, whereby private companies may only be able to work to a limited extent in speed measurement. In some federal states, such as Baden-Württemberg, this is even fully prohibited.

The city of Leipzig therefore shows an example of how important it is to observe the traffic rules and regularly carry out speed controls in order to increase safety on the streets. Today's measures are a clear indication that the authorities actively act against overrun speed and want to ensure traffic safety for all road users.
