University of Leipzig starts excellence project to combat metabolic diseases!
Leipzig, Deutschland - The University of Leipzig has achieved significant success as part of the federal government's excellence strategy. As the Leipziger Internet Zeitung reports, the upcoming cluster "Leipzig Center of Metabolism ”(Leicem) a comprehensive funding that comes into force on January 1, 2026 and is planned over a period of seven years. The official announcement was made on May 22, 2025 by the joint commission of the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the Science Council.
With this funding, which amounts to millions of amounts, Leicem aims to develop innovative approaches to research and treatment of metabolic diseases such as obesity, diabetes mellitus and fatty liver disease.
