Jamie Hayter injured! Return uncertain after Thekla's attacking debut
In recent weeks there has been great speculation surrounding the absence of former AEW Women's World Champion Jamie Hayter from the wrestling stage. Hayter's last appearance on television was on May 25, 2025, following her match against Mercedes Mone at the Double or Nothing event. After this defeat, she was attacked by new wrestler Thekla, which further brought her absence into focus. Reports from Sportskeeda confirm that Jamie Hayter is not cleared to compete due to an injury and has therefore not been seen on TV for several weeks.
WrestleVotes confirmed that the reasons for Hayter's lack of TV exposure are due to her injury, which currently prevents her from actively wrestling. Thekla's attack was staged as a creative means to temporarily write Hayter out of the shows. While the exact nature of her injury remains unclear, some reports suggest that she may not have been fully fit going into the match against Mone, while others claim she may have sustained the injury during the course of the encounter.
Return and storyline plans
Hayter is expected to pursue a storyline with attacker Thekla upon her return. This could significantly shape the narrative surrounding her return and the course of her narrative within AEW. However, there is currently no set time frame for her return, which is keeping fans and the wrestling community in suspense. Dave Meltzer explained that the staging of Thekla's attack was also intended as a kind of cover for Hayter's injury, to bridge the time until her full recovery, such as The Ring Report further reported.
Hayter, who has been with the company since the early days of AEW, has had a distinguished career, including her return in 2021, where she teamed with Britt Baker, among others, and captured the AEW Women's World Championship by defeating Toni Storm. Their last appearance already had a high emotional value, and their return is eagerly awaited.
Speculation about the future
Speculation surrounding Hayter's possible WWE signing was also addressed, although WrestleVotes makes it clear that such considerations are currently unfounded as long as she is in the healing phase. Her fans can only hope that her return won't be too long in coming and that she'll soon be back in the ring to maintain her place as the top attraction on AEW's women's roster.
