Diamond wedding in Gehlenberg: Thekla and Josef celebrate 60 years of love!

On July 14, 2023, Thekla and Josef Meemken from Gehlenberg celebrated an impressive marriage anniversary: their diamond wedding. Sixty years of marital bliss lie behind the couple, who are deeply rooted not only in their love story but also in the community of Gehlenberg. Thekla, born in 1942, and Josef, born in 1938, have known each other since childhood and danced for the first time at a shooting festival in 1962.

The engagement followed in 1964 before they said yes on July 14, 1965 in the St. Prosper Church in Gehlenberg. In 1970 they took over the Meemken-Hof, which is still their home today. Together they have six children: Maria, Wilfried, Werner, Dieter, Ingrid and Christiane. Her family is also expanded by seven grandchildren. The farm is now run by their son Wilfried and his wife Katrin.

Shared commitment and hobbies

Josef Meemken was an active hunter for over 40 years and plays the harmonica in the local music group in his free time. He also regularly takes part in a double-header round. Thekla, on the other hand, enjoys tending to her vegetable garden and is active weekly in a gymnastics group. She is also heavily involved in the Gehlenberg Catholic women's community and the Gehlenberg-Neuvrees-Hilkenbrook rural women's association, while Josef is a member of the shooting club and sports club.

The diamond wedding celebration took place on July 18, 2023, accompanied by a thanksgiving service at 10 a.m. in the Gehlenberger Church, followed by a celebration in the Jansen-Olliges hall in Neulorup. Family, friends and neighbors gathered there to properly celebrate the honorary date.

Another couple from the neighborhood, Thea and Hans Kramer, also recently celebrated their diamond wedding.
