Seniors' afternoon in Seehausen: Safety and community in focus!

On Tuesday, June 24, 2025, the Stendal local association's seniors' afternoon took place at the DRK meeting center in Seehausen. The event brought together numerous participants who exchanged ideas about trade union issues and contributed to the social atmosphere over coffee and cake. A special enrichment was the speaker Inka Wunderling, who, as the EVG union secretary, reported on current security studies. These addressed, among other things, the introduction of body cameras, the use of which has significantly reduced the number of attacks, as evg-online.org informs.

In addition to the security study, calls were also made for a stronger presence and better equipment for security personnel as well as for comprehensive video surveillance in trains and stations. The participants were thus able to be given a feeling of safety on public transport, which is becoming more and more aware of the public. The topic of video surveillance is also relevant from a data protection perspective, as there are a number of legal requirements that must be adhered to, as is clear, for example, in the analysis by springer.com.

Diverse topics and interests

Another point of the event was the digitalization of rail transport, which was highlighted by digital ticket sales via the MobiDig app. This development shows how the industry is adapting to digital transformation. In addition, video conferences entitled “Care with the BAHN-BKK” were invited, in which experts gave an overview of care issues. These will take place on several dates, starting on June 26th, 2025 and continuing on July 8th, September 11th and October 7th, each from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

The age structure of the participants made it clear that there is no question of age in the community. The youngest participant was 64 years old, while the oldest participant was an impressive 95 years old. This underlines that the discussions and interests regarding the security situation and digitalization are relevant far beyond generational boundaries. The event thus shows that community knows no age limits, which is an encouraging signal in a society that is often aging.
