In the night of Tuesday, the Leipzig authorities were once again faced with an incident that raises questions about security in the city. Unknown perpetrators set fire to an electric car in Volksgartenstrasse in Schönefeld-Ost. The police were alerted at 3.25 a.m., but the vehicle burned out completely. The property damage incurred is estimated at around 20,000 euros. The exact cause of the fire is still unclear and part of the ongoing investigations, which the police also conducted due to arson, such as the LVZ reported.

It is unusual that a similar series of arson attacks on electric vehicles from the Leipzig regulatory office recently occurred. On June 14th, three electric cars were set on fire directly in front of the town hall in Schönefeld, with the extinguishing work being made more difficult because one of the vehicles constantly flared up. The investigation shows that there have already been several attacks on vehicles from the regulatory office in the past. These had recently rented expensive replacement cars before buying several electric compact cars.

Investigations into attempted murder

The brand series in Leipzig are not limited to Schönefeld. Several vehicles were also lit in the Schleußig district on Saturday night. Unknown inflamed cars, residential trailers and campers within a radius of about a hundred meters. A 36-year-old man who was sitting in one of the vehicles was injured by the fire. In this context, the public prosecutor is investigating attempted murder and arson.
