Arson attacks on electric cars in Leipzig: investigations underway!

On Tuesday night, the Leipzig authorities were again confronted with an incident that raised questions about security in the city. Unknown perpetrators set fire to an electric car on Volksgartenstrasse in Schönefeld-Ost. The police were alerted at 3:25 a.m., but the vehicle was completely burned out. The resulting material damage is estimated at around 20,000 euros. The exact cause of the fire is still unclear and is part of the ongoing investigation, which is also being carried out by the police into arson LVZ reported.

What is unusual is that a similar series of arson attacks on electric vehicles owned by the Leipzig public order office occurred recently. On June 14th, three electric vehicles were set on fire directly in front of the town hall in Schönefeld, with extinguishing work being made more difficult because one of the vehicles kept lighting up again. The investigation shows that there have been several attacks on public order office vehicles in the past. They had recently rented expensive replacement cars before purchasing several compact electric cars.

Attempted murder investigation

However, the series of fires in Leipzig are not limited to Schönefeld. In the Schleußig district, several vehicles were also set on fire on Saturday night. Unidentified people set fire to cars, trailers and campers within a radius of about a hundred meters. A 36-year-old man who was in one of the vehicles was injured in the fire. In this context, the public prosecutor's office is investigating attempted murder and arson. According to the star has not yet been completed and the police have announced that they will not release any further details in order not to jeopardize the investigation.

The events shed light on a growing problem with vehicle fires in the city. The police terrorism and extremism defense center in the LKA Saxony has already begun investigations into the arsons and points out the urgency of determining the background to the series of fires. Citizens' concerns about the safety of their vehicles and public spaces are growing as relevant authorities intensify their educational efforts.
