Shooting festival in Schönau-Altenwenden: Festive opening on Friday!

On June 27, 2025, the 101st shooting festival of the St. Elisabeth shooting club will be celebrated in Schönau-Altenwenden. The official starting shot will be fired at 4:30 p.m. at the Bützers club restaurant, where the music club “Treue” Ottfingen will open the celebrations musically. As part of the ceremony, the outgoing majesties, royal couple Philipp Stursberg and Rebecca Arenz as well as the young rifle king Max Wohlfahrt, will be picked up. The weather forecast is promising, so participants can hope for pleasant conditions.

An important part of the festival is the commemoration of those who fell in the two world wars at the memorial. This ceremony takes place immediately before the traditional bird shooting, which begins at 6:15 p.m. at the bird perch on the cam. This year two new majesties will be determined, which increases the excitement and anticipation even more. The long wait for the Schützenfest has a special meaning, not least because the last two festivals could not take place due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Holidays and celebrations

On Saturday, June 28th, the participants will gather at 3:00 p.m. in front of the festival tent for the big parade, which will be accompanied by festive music from the Wenden Volunteer Fire Department Music Band and the Wenden Marching Band. After the impressive pageant, the Royal Polonaise is celebrated, in which the new majesties take center stage.

The celebration of their majesties and their court will be rounded off by dance music by Funky Tones from the Iseringhausen Music Association from 8:00 p.m. This promises an atmospheric night for all guests and members of the club who are invited to celebrate.

Sunday joys and honors

Sunday begins with a high mass in St. Elisabeth Church at 9:00 a.m., followed by a traditional morning pint. Anniversary ceremonies will also take place as part of this event, which will be rescheduled as the shooting festival could not be held in the last two years.

After Holy Mass, visitors can take part in a children's dance, which appeals not only to the youngest but also to the entire family. “The shooters from Schönau and Altenwenden are looking forward to the festival; a good atmosphere and exciting bird shooting are guaranteed,” said the organizers, who cordially invite all members, citizens and guests to join in the celebration.
