RB Leipzig: 770 million for the stadium of the future!

RB Leipzig continues to position itself as one of the pioneers in German football, not only through sporting successes, but also through extensive investments in infrastructure. With new coach Ole Werner and a completely revamped squad, the club winters in fourth place in the Champions League rankings. The club's development is also reflected in the opening of a modern office, which began operations in mid-December and is considered the most progressive in the Bundesliga. The cost of this new office was 60 million euros and offers space for 300 employees.

In recent years, the club has invested more than 200 million euros in various infrastructure projects. 100 million euros went into the renovation of the stadium and 35 million euros into the construction of a new training center. The expansion on the former BSV Schönau site also cost 8 million euros. All investments are not financed by grants or “gifted” money from Red Bull, but by normal loans and income from the club. In 2024, RB Leipzig paid a remarkable 107 million euros in taxes to the federal, state and local governments.

Extensive stadium modernization planned

A central project for RB Leipzig is the comprehensive modernization of the Red Bull Arena, for which an investment of around 770 million US dollars is planned. The aim is to develop the stadium into one of the most modern, sustainable and fan-friendly arenas in Europe. The project is targeted for completion in 2028. The modernization will increase capacity and meet the demands of modern football by creating an exceptional experience for fans, players and partners.

Particular attention is paid to the topic of sustainability. Functions such as environmentally friendly building materials, innovative energy concepts such as solar energy, intelligent air conditioning systems and water saving measures are integral parts of the modern stadium concept. The new arena will serve as a multifunctional venue for football games, international events, concerts and cultural events. The integration of state-of-the-art technology, including high-speed internet connections and interactive fan experiences, is also planned to further increase the stadium's appeal.

Sustainability and social responsibility

As with other sports venues worldwide, the focus is on sustainable practices. The trend is moving away from conventional concrete stadiums towards energy-efficient arenas that can serve as models for sustainable urban development. Social pressure from fans, media and NGOs reinforces the need to take environmentally friendly measures and reduce CO₂ emissions. RB Leipzig not only wants to meet the requirements here, but also set new standards.

A container house on Cottaweg will be used temporarily for the Conference League final on May 27, 2026 and will then be dismantled. In addition, a planned expansion of the small training area is planned by mid-2027 with investments of at least 3 million euros. From the 2027/2028 season onwards, the main building of the Red Bull Arena is to be renovated in line with technology without restricting organizational processes. In addition, the arena will be one of the venues for the women's home European Championship in 2029, for which double-digit million euros will also be made available.

The search for a replacement area for a municipal fairground is supported by RB Leipzig, with a binding statement from the city expected at the beginning of 2026. These steps demonstrate the club's commitment to taking on not only sporting but also social responsibility and contributing to regional development.
