RB Leipzig announced that the contract with the head of the youth department will be terminated by mutual agreement on June 30th. Manuel Baum, born August 30, 1979, is an experienced football coach and former player. Among other things, he was head coach of the youth team at the FCA's youth performance center (NLZ) from 2014 to 2016. The sporting successes under his leadership also included being promoted to head coach of the Bundesliga team, which he led from December 2016. Baum managed to lead FCA to 13th place in the Bundesliga in the 2016/17 season and 12th place in the 2017/18 season.
Career and successes at FC Augsburg
Baum took up the coaching position at FC Augsburg after parting ways with Dirk Schuster, when the team was in a dangerous 15th place. Although he was replaced by Martin Schmidt in April 2019, three youth players - Marco Richter, Raphael Framberger and Kevin Danso - made their Bundesliga debuts under his aegis. FCA managing director Michael Ströll has emphasized in the past that he has strong aspirations to increasingly establish his own youth players in the Bundesliga.
In the speculation surrounding a possible return to his former club, FC Augsburg, it has been suggested that Baum could perhaps replace Heinz Moser as head of development.
