The Macedonian professional footballer Eljif Elmas, who currently plays for RB Leipzig, is increasingly the focus of interest from SSC Napoli. According to a report by Picture Elmas is considered a big misunderstanding within the club and could leave Leipzig this summer, especially due to his high salary of 6 million euros.
Elmas only moved from Naples to Leipzig in 2024 after the Bundesliga club paid around 24 million euros for the player. Elmas played at Napoli from 2019 to 2024 and scored 19 goals in 189 games during this time. He also prepared 11 goals and celebrated successes, including winning the championship and the cup.
However, negotiations about a return to Naples are in jeopardy. The Italian champions are interested in a loan deal, but Leipzig rejects this as the club prefers an immediate, fixed solution.
Elmas' career and achievements
Eljif Elmas was born on September 24, 1999 and is versatile as a central midfielder, winger or striker. He started his career at FK Rabotnički in Macedonia, where he scored six goals in the 2016–17 season and led the club to a third place finish in the Macedonian League. In 2017 he moved to Fenerbahçe before moving to SSC Napoli in 2019. In Naples, Elmas quickly established himself and scored important goals in key places, such as the decisive goal against AC Milan, which secured the club second place in Serie A in 2021.
However, his greatest achievement was winning the Scudetto with Napoli in 2023, their first title since the Diego Maradona era. Loud Wikipedia Elmas has so far played 69 international matches with the North Macedonian national team and scored 13 goals, including decisive goals in World Cup qualifiers.
The current situation at RB Leipzig
As the transfer period is coming to an end, RB Leipzig apparently does not want to keep Elmas, especially since he has not performed as hoped. However, as the current interpreter for newcomer Andrija Maksimović, who does not speak German or English, Elmas continues to show commitment and team spirit in the club. The club has clearly signaled that they are interested in selling so as not to further complicate the situation.
The coming weeks will be crucial to see whether Elmas will finish his time at RB Leipzig and potentially return to Naples. Negotiations between the clubs could still prove challenging, particularly when it comes to the financial terms of a transfer.
