RB Leipzig goes green: New PV system for climate-friendly electricity!
RB Leipzig relies on sustainable energy and, in collaboration with Energiekonzepte Deutschland (EKD), has installed a photovoltaic system on the roof of its new office and on the training center. The installation of the solar system is seen as an important step in the club's climate-friendly energy supply. Loud solarserver.de The new PV system is intended to optimize the electricity consumed by the company and partially cover the office's high annual electricity requirement of around 600,000 kWh.
The photovoltaic system at the football academy on Cottaweg consists of 498 high-quality solar modules and has a total output of 209.16 kW. This means that the output is roughly equivalent to that of twenty single-family homes. The total area of the PV system is 972.5 m², which shows how seriously the association takes the implementation of sustainable energy concepts.
Technical requirements and advantages
The installation of the PV system placed special technical demands on the EKD team. The existing green roof had to be taken into account, and fall protection and the complex cable routing were also challenges that had to be overcome. Of particular note are the 20 custom-made facade PV modules that were installed alongside 252 roof solar modules. These components have a positive effect on the energy efficiency of the building.
Jens May, COO of RB Leipzig, underlines the importance of this initiative for the club's climate-friendly energy supply. Silvio Bräuer, CSO of EKD, describes the partnership as a passion project that goes beyond mere sponsorship. With a targeted self-consumption rate of 99.5%, the system also contributes to saving around 96,904 kg of CO₂ annually ekd-solar.de reported.
Outlook and community engagement
The new office is expected to be occupied by the end of the year. The decision to invest in sustainable energy reflects the club's commitment to taking responsibility not only in football but also in environmental protection. EKD, a locally based company from Leipzig, can look back on over 120 successfully implemented large-scale projects and more than 35,000 installed solar systems. The positive response in the form of Google reviews with 4.2 out of 5.0 from over 1,600 reviews speaks for the quality and competence of EKD in the planning and implementation of such projects.
