Ole Werner becomes coach at RB Leipzig – change for two million!
RB Leipzig has officially announced that Ole Werner will be the club's new coach. The transfer negotiations with Werder Bremen have been successfully concluded and Leipzig will pay a maximum of two million euros to the Bremen club. Werner, who signed a two-year contract with RB Leipzig, also brings his assistants Patrick Kohlmann and Tom Cichon with him.
The club, which originally demanded more than six million euros, was ultimately able to reach a deeper compromise. This means Werder Bremen will save around 2.5 million euros in salary costs for the coaching team, which was under contract until 2026. Marcel Schäfer, managing director of RB Leipzig, had considered breaking off negotiations, but Werner remained the first choice for the coaching position.
Commitment details
In the past 48 hours, both clubs had made significant progress in talks and only formal details remained to be clarified between Werner and RB Leipzig. It is believed that the transfer fee is less than three million euros. According to the latest information from kicker A verbal contract could have already been reached, but Werner's official signature is still pending.
Werner's season preparation starts on July 11th and 12th with performance tests; the official start of training is scheduled for July 14th. The first test match against ZFC Meuselwitz will take place on July 19th. Werner will be directly involved in squad planning and will, among other things, accompany the signing of midfielder Ezechiel Banzuzi (20) for 16 million euros from OH Leuven.
Future transfers
Another potential addition is the Spanish central defender Cristhian Mosquera (20), for whom transfer negotiations with FC Valencia are being sought, with a sum of 30 million euros being discussed. RB Leipzig is also considering signing Brazilian striker Romulu (23) from Göztepe Izmir and Nicolas Kühn (25) from Celtic Glasgow.
The official announcement of Werther's commitment is still pending, but the signs of a fruitful collaboration are clear. Yahoo Sports has also followed the developments of the last negotiations and confirmed that RB Leipzig and Werder Bremen are in the final stages of an agreement.
